A very rare variety of Nagyban thaler - with an error in the legend!
The only variety among both vintages of these thalers where the engraver made a mistake. On the reverse is LIΛOinstead of LIVO.
An impressive item absent from many well-known collections (including Hutten-Czapski's), present in Karolkiewicz's collection.
An interesting issue of King Batory. It is most likely the result of a loan taken by Batory in his native country, which was paid to him not in coinage there, but in coinage struck under his stamp as King of Poland.
Very nice state of preservation.
Silver, diameter 40 mm, weight 27.8 g
