Spanish Netherlands, Brabant, Philip IV, patagon 1632, mens. Antwerp. Silver, 27.84 g, 42.8 mm. Van Gelder-Hoc 329-1; Keymeulen 59BRA22.59 (mistakenly does not know this vintage from this mint!); Vanhoudt 645. Condition III+, nicely minted for this denomination. Patagons were the main species of thaler circulating in Poland in the last decades of the 17th and early 18th centuries. Based on their model, August II minted for the Polish market the so-called bank thalers with an oblique Burgundian cross on the reverse. |
