A distinctive denarius of Boleslaw the Tall, the eldest son of Ladislaus the Exile, with a reverse referring to his father's issue.
Struck in Wrocław, dated 1173-1190.
The obverse shows the letters VS, which was once interpreted as Sanctus Adalbertus, and now, as Boris Paszkiewicz writes, "would be an abbreviation of the name Vladizlaus."
A more interesting, rarer variety with a cross of points in the field, behind the figure of a knight. On the side with the bishop the usual cross.
Silver, diameter 16 mm, weight 0.30 g.
