City shilling minted in Gdansk for Sigismund I the Old in 1540. A very rare vintage of the Gdansk shekel, misestimated rarity in the
catalogs. In the Onebid.pl archives since 1998, the 1540 Gdańsk shekel has occurred 6 times, of which the POLON variant has occurred only 2 times.
obverse: Coat of Arms of Gdansk, and in the outer rim the legend: MONE*CIVI*GEDANEN*1540/KWIAT
reverse: Eagle of the Prussian Lands, and in the outer rim the legend: SIGIS*DEI*GRA*REX*POLON/HAKI
