Lot description Show orginal version
Grade: NGC MS63
Reference: Stronczyński 38.-, Kopicki 42 (R2)

An exquisite mint piece, with beautiful luster throughout.
Relief with no signs of circulation, fine patina.
One of the highest NGC grading marks for this type of denarius.
Rare in this state of preservation.

Issued by a Polish prince, who by his will divided the Piast state for the next almost 200 years.
Undescribed in Stronczynski's catalog is the otolith legend, in addition to the converted letter L to C.

Reverse: bishop (St. Ad albert?) in front with one hand blessing and in the other holding a book, next to him a knight holding a spear and shield
Obverse: straight cross with balls between the arms, in the rim legend
DC˙ALBLBAV().

Worthy of recommendation for the best collections.
