When the Soviet Union occupied Lithuania in 1941 March 25 denied litas currency. The occupation authorities ordered the destruction of the litas currency. The paper money was burnt the coins were destroyed on the machine by removing the Lithuanian symbols on the obverse and reverse. The obverse and the reverse are destroyed in the rolling mill but they show the contours of the former coin. Obverse - bust of President Antanas Smetona reverse - columns of Gediminas.
