A very rare coin in this state of preservation.
The denomination introduced by the reform of January 11, 1924 was minted in 1924 with backdated 1923 and then with annual dates at the State Mint in Warsaw. According to the law of January 20, 1924, bronze coins could be used to pay debts up to a maximum of 5 zlotys, and from 1927 up to 10 zlotys. The coin remained in circulation until 1950, and was still exchanged at NBP cash registers in the 1960s.
In 1925, 5 pennies were minted in brass, in other years in bronze. The lowest mintage was 420,000 in 1934 and 1936, the highest was 45,000,000 in 1925. All coins were minted in Warsaw.
Obverse: crowned eagle, in the rim the legend: RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA ♦rok♦. On the sides of the eagle the designer's initials W - J, under the eagle's right foot the Kościesza coat of arms - the mark of the State Mint in Warsaw.
Reverse: stylized acanthus leaves, between them the numeral 5, below the inscription GROSZY.
