Obverse: head of Hermes to right, wearing petasos

Reverse: goat walking to right, AINI above, crab below foreleg

Diameter 11 mm, weight 0.95 g

The city of Ainos (Aenus) was situated on a peninsula at the mouth of the Hebron River into the Aegean Sea. Taking advantage of its location, the city controlled navigation on the river, drawing considerable profits from it. Coins were minted there mainly in the 5th and 4th centuries BC.
