Duchy of Warsaw, Ducat 1813 IB, Warsaw - rarity
The highest denomination in the Duchy of Warsaw in 1812 and 1813 on the foot of Dutch ducats.
The 1813 ducats are a great rarity. Three auction listings of two pieces have been recorded on the Polish market since 2000.
Av.: Head of Frederick Augustus to the right. In the rim: FRID AVG REX SAX DVX VARSOV
Rw.: Under the crown, encircled by a wreath of palm branches, a two-field escutcheon with the coats of arms of Poland and Saxony. On the sides of the crown the date 18 - 13, at the bottom initials I - B (of Jakub Benicke - administrator of the Warsaw mint). In the rim: AUREUS NUMMUS DUCAT VARSOV
State of preservation: NGC AU58
Minimal justing and minor rim defects, but a beautifully struck and preserved piece. Beautiful detail. Glossy and lots of mint mirror. The note may not be very impressive, but this is the piece that received the highest NGC AU58 grade and is the only piece with such a grade. A very rare coin for seasoned collectors. A rare opportunity to add to your collection.
