Great class, unique numismatic coin, EXTREMELY RARE.
A superb testimony to the beginnings of the Polish state.
A fascinating issue with Cyrillic inscriptions, it is, according to current research, a manifestation of the Brave's seizure of power in Kyiv Rus. Evidence for this thesis is the bull of Yaroslav the Wise discovered in Novgorod the Great depicting the prince in the same manner as on the Chrobry's Rus denarii. This issue is attributed to the minting of the Greater Chrobry, although in earlier studies there were speculations about the Ruthenian character of these coins. However, their absence in ancient Rus indicates that they could not have been minted there.
The issue also fits in with the propaganda of the Polish ruler as the superior of the Slavs - at this point also of the East.
The crème de la crème of Polish medievalism.
A very nice piece, with no cracks.
Obverse: bust in front with palm, Cyrillic legend in the fields;
Reverse: double cross with crosses at the ends of the arms, Cyrillic legend in the rim.
For the best collections - strongly recommended.
