The first coin inscribed with the name of the Polish state - POLONIE, while the cross as a sacred image.
According to Ryszard Kiersnowski, the formula in the rim has its pattern in money minted in the 9th and 10th centuries in the Principality of Benevento - so the inspiration must have come through cultural or political contacts with Italy. The second thesis of the researcher, on the other hand, suggests the non-accidental use of the term "princes," which still refers to antiquity. - it would accentuate the status of Boleslaw the Brave obtained during the Gniezno congress and refer to Otto III's ambitions to reconstruct a Christian Roman empire.
According to Dr. Witold Garbaczewski, the minting of a denarius of the Princes Polonie type should be linked to the Gniezno congress, however - we are talking about ideological reference, not strict chronology. According to the expert, the earliest date of issuance of the coin is 1002, the year Otto III passed away, while its minting in 1005 is indicated as the most likely.
A highly rare, uncommon ONE-sided variety, struck with the reverse stamp of the most recognizable PRINCES POLONIE denarius with a peacock (eagle), adorning a contemporary 20 zloty banknote.
