Here is one of the ornate coin offerings of the Royal Polish times from our auction.
A print in pure silver of the only vintage of the Elbląg tymphes.
A coin that combines two desirable collector qualities: rarity and beauty.
A beautiful mint piece. With a mirror background, only in an uneven patina.
Tymfs is a denomination that in Elblag, was minted only in the last year of operation of this mint. After the resignation of the previous administrator Jost Carl Schröder, the mint was taken over by Friedrich Ludwig Stieber, whose initials F.L.S. were placed on the coins.
Two varieties of these tymphes are known, differing mainly in the form of the inscription of the sentence"Secundae Reductionis" (according to the reduction): "Sec - red" and, as on the present piece,"Secund : red".
During its operations under Augustus III, the mint also issued a number of proof and collector issues, striking original stamped coins in pure silver, gold, or in clip form. One of them is precisely this tymph.
The coin is very rare in the trade, as confirmed by our archive. This is only the second piece in our more than 20-year history (the first one sold in 2018 for PLN 39,100).
Silver, diameter 28 mm, weight 6.59 g
