Biogram
Sculptor and ceramist born in Zakopane came from the highland family of Gąsienica Sobczak. After graduating from the School of Wood Industry in Zakopane, he began studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. In 1907 he traveled to Paris, and upon his return was active in the "Podhale Art" Society and in the "Sculpture" and "Fashion" groups. Until the outbreak of World War I, he was involved in exhibiting painting, sculpture and ceramics. He opened an art studio where such artists as Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz, Mieczyslaw Szczuka and Leon Chwistek met. In 1934, he took a position as a city councilman, and six years later became director of the Vocational School of Highland Folk Art. However, after a few weeks he resigned and became deputy for artistic and regional affairs. He remained in this position until his death.
