Fau : red leather with richly gilded deep embossing on the cover and spine, with the royal coat of arms of Marie Leszczynska on both covers, 6-poly spine with lily motif and title, doublers on all edges bordered with intensely gilded leather, edges accented with linear gilding, upper k. trim gilded, multicolored liners with floral motifs.
Rebound. 1000 copies numbered on vellum from the Rives manufactory ; copy no. 716. Extensive, impressively published biography of King Louis XV of France and his wife, Queen Mary Leszczynska, daughter of King Stanislaw Leszczynski of Poland, enriched with carefully selected period illustrations, given in elegant heliogravures (with the frontispiece in particular). Luxurious, highly decorative binding by the well-known Parisian bookbinder Lucien Durvand (1852-1924) with the assistance of J. Fau (signed embossed and gilt on both covers), referring in form to royal splendor. Very good condition! A beautiful book and copy!
