From the printer's preface: "This is a dialogic Romance written with delicacy, full of things smoothly published and showing that the writer knew how to feel them [...]. According to the opinion of the scholars we have advised, the translator has rendered the beauties of the original very well: you can see there the difference of beautiful descriptions, vivid, tender images." At the end there is a handwritten note from the period: "This kind of feeling is called platonic love, beautiful, moral, respectable and beautiful. But in spite of its allure and glory in Parnassus, what use is it?".
