Faust - a drama by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in two parts, written in 1773-1832, published in full only after the author's death in 1833. It contains nearly 12,000 verses, which is why it is considered a non-scriptural work. It is considered Goethe's most outstanding work and a synthesis of his views. The theme of the work is God's wager with Mephistopheles, for the soul of the eponymous Doctor Faustus. Faust is to give it to the devil when he tastes the fullness of happiness and utters the words: last a moment, you are beautiful.
