Artur Szyk (born June 16, 1894 in Lodz, died September 13, 1951 in New Canaan, USA), graphic artist, illustrator, caricaturist. "The Statute of Kalisz" was issued by Boleslaw the Pious in 1264 and guaranteed Jews the rights to Jewish courts, personal freedom, freedom of religion, trade and travel. In 1334 it was confirmed by Casimir III the Great and extended to all of Poland. Artur Szyk worked on the "Statute of Kalisz" in 1926-1928, with a printed edition published in Munich in 1932.
