1942 Miranada de Ebro Concentration Camp in Spain for Poles.
In the Miranda de Ebro camp were interned many Polish refugees who illegally crossed the French-Spanish border after the fall of France throughout the period 1940-1944. Their number is estimated at 1200-2000 people. Among those imprisoned in Miranda de Ebro was Antoni Kepinski, who was taken prisoner with a group of Poles who crossed the Pyrenees after the surrender of France. Most of the Polish concentration camp inmates ended up in the Miranda de Ebro camp. Franco, however, gradually released them and did not hand them over to the Germans, despite pressure from Berlin diplomacy. Spanish authorities also allowed the Polish Red Cross and organizations associated with the Polish government in London to operate.
