Lot description
Estimations: 1 500 - 2 500 EUR
Bronze. Black coating with greenish traces. 18,5 x 13 x 13 cm

A pair of bronze, coated candelabra resting on tripod bases in the shape of satyrs. The satyrs are holding a drip pan that features grotesque masks.

This specimen is traditionally attributed to Padua's Renaissance production and in particular to Niccolò Roccatagliata's (1560-1636) school. This decorative motif, depicting three satyrs sat on volutes holding a candlestick, can be found in other objects of the same school but with different functions. For example, compare this item with the inkwell auctioned at Sotheby's, 17 december 2008, New York, USA.

To observe similar specimens look for the candelabra pair preserved in the Museo Miniscalchi-Erizzo in Verona, which are also attributed to Roccatagliata.
