This special, luxurious edition was printed in 440 pieces on handmade paper (this piece bears No. 60) and impressively bound in red leather with bound "FR" (Friedrich Rex) monogram on the front covers and ornate 6-poly spines bearing a gilded titulature and images of an eagle supporting a shield with the "FR" monogram repeated as on the face. The work was issued to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Frederick the Great's birth and the 25th anniversary of the reign of William II. Frederick II the Great (1712 - 1786), King of Prussia. Under his rule, Prussia became one of the most powerful states. In his works he included memoirs and history of his time, including a detailed account of the Seven Years' War. The entire book is enriched with extensive illustrative material by Adolph Menzel. Traces of non-existent rubbing of the binding. Top edges of pages gilt. good condition.
