t.1

Cracow 1871, in Drukarnia "Czasu"-Publisher's Edition, pp. 229,[5], format 14.5x22cm

"These military-political writings of jenerał Cbrzanowski remaining in his papers, were known until now
only to the governments to whom he gave them and whose actions they influenced, and with the exception of a few, they are not known at all to the
at all to the public. For of these writings only the following have been published so far: an exception from the plan to begin offensive action against Moscow immediately after the outbreak of the November uprising, by an immediate march to Lithuania, which was submitted[1] by Yen. Chrzanowski, who was then a lieutenant colonel in the Polish army, to dictator Chlopicki on December 7, 1830, and the exception was given by Manrycy Mochnacki in his excellent but unfortunately only begun history of the Polish uprising in 1830 and 1831; three notes on the eastern question, which I included in my dissertation in the Polish Review, in 1866; and finally the report submitted by the jenny to the Sardinian government and published without any explanation in the Yearbook of the Historical and Literary Society in Paris in 1866.
Admittedly, I was not instructed by General Chranowski to publish his military-political writings, hitherto unknown to the public , nor did he prepare them for printing, and left them only, as I mentioned, in brulion manuscripts, some even Only in notes, among the papers and books given to me. However, I feel that I have fulfilled a useful work for the country when I prepared for printing, expounded with the recounting of contemporary historical incidents, and publish these memoirs, reports and treatises of the general, each of which has a certain historical value, and the greater part of which still has political or military validity even now, since the position of the matters to which they related has not changed in its general features. I even think that today, after the clarification of peoples' opinions on many issues by later events, and especially
with regard to the aspirations of the Muscovite Empire, some of the presentations and plans of Yen. Chrzanowski's plans would be more readily accepted as to their main idea, although their implementation
would be more difficult now. The present moment, when the Muscovite government, having knocked Poland down again after the last uprising, is exerting all the resources of its destructive power and using all means of barbarism and oppression to eradicate the Polish nation, to clear out of the way the barrier which for half a century
holding it back in its further conquests and consuming its forces, and when once again this government is reaching towards Carogrod with a predatory hand this moment is very opportune for the promulgation of writings indicating the paths by which the Muscovite empire is advancing its conquests and presenting the means of stopping its steps.
I should add here that of the many reports, correspondences l memoryals presented to the governments of the Western powers or the Turkish, only a trace remains in the papers and the warp is lost, some even perished without a trace . Therefore, I cannot publish them, but only in the explanations or introductions with which I precede each section of the writings, I will mention the lost ones which I found ad .
Of the remaining writings, some dealt with transient events and would not be of interest today, while some of the dissertations, specifically military, have now lost their value due to later inventions and improvements (e.g., the dissertation on English and American rifles of the time),
already that they referred to momentary relations. Therefore, it would not be beneficial to publish writings of both kinds, and I exclude them from this collection. Namely, I have not included several notes from 1833-1837, in which the jeneral projected detailed reforms in the Turkish army and several
of memorials relating to the reorganization of the Piedmontese army in 1848 and 1849."
