A 1912 novel by Stefan Zeromski, set during the January Uprising. The novel is written in poetic prose and is classified as modernist literature of the Young Poland period.
The work tells the story of the love between a young noblewoman, Salomea Brynicka, and an insurgent, Prince Jozef Odrowaz, wounded in the battle of Malogoszcz. The plot of the novel takes place from February 25 to June 1863, during the January Uprising, mostly in the manor house of Niezdoły on the Łośna River in the Świętokrzyskie region. The places, people and history described in the novel had a real-life prototype.
