Artistic binding stylized as that of F.J.Radziszewski, richly ornamented olive green half-leather; spine divided into five fields, in one field a red signboard with gilded titulature, in the remaining fields embossed and gilded floral motifs decorated with inlaid pieces of red leather; convex folds emphasized with gilded lines ; covers covered with marbled paper; gilded line at joining of materials; top edge of pages stained.

First edition of a novel based on the story of John Marcińczyk, a major in the WP infantry. Pasted-in original vignette according to a drawing by Anna Zawadzka. Piotr Rozlucki is an officer in the Russian army, raised by his uncle the general in the spirit of loyalty to the tsar and Russia. However, his attitude changes when he learns about the tragic fate of his father, an insurgent killed by the Russians, and sees his grave. He decides to return to his Polish roots, but his love for the beautiful Russian Tatiana stands in the way. Piotr has to make a choice...
