Novel published in 1936 as part of the second autobiographical series, "The Life of Nicholas Srebrempisany." The action of the novel, depicting the years of adolescence and junior high school education of the cycle's protagonist, was placed by the author in Wolkowice (or Wadowice),a typical western Galician town before World War I. The suggestion of authenticity (many real characters, sometimes under real names), combined with the drastic erotic scenes, anti-clerical and anarchist tendencies, and finally a pamphlet-like criticism of provincial customs and the school system - caused a heated polemic, during which Zegadłowicz was stripped of his honorary citizenship of Wadowice.Edition with satirical illustrations by Zbigniew Pronaszko .
