"Shattered Revival" is an anthology of poetry, prose, drama and essays from 1917-1933, consisting of texts by Ukrainian authors residing in the USSR.
The book presents us with genre-diverse and thematically diverse works, which were written during a period of tumultuous political, social and cultural changes in Ukraine. This period is called the ,,red revival'' of Ukrainian culture, and was interrupted with a change in Moscow's policy, in 1929-33, ending with the Great Purge.
The anthology is divided into four sections: poetry, prose, drama and essay. Among the authors are some of the most prominent writers of Soviet Ukraine from the interwar period with works that the Communist government has erased from history for several decades, including Mykhailo Boychuk, Mykola Khvylyovy, Vasyl Chechvianshkyj, Mykhailo Draj-Chmara, Myroslav Irchan, Mykhailo Johansen, Mykola Kulish, Leś Kurbas, Theodosiy Osmaczka, Valerjan Pidmohylnyy, Yevhen Płużnyk, Maksym Rylski, Oleksa Slisarenko, Pavlo Tyczyna, Ostap Vyshnia, Mykola Zerov.
