Yosif Alexandrovich Brodsky - Russian-American poet and essayist. Winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature for 1987. In the USSR sentenced to forced labor for "parasitism" - 1964. 1972 he is deprived of citizenship and expelled from the USSR. Settled in New York where he taught at various universities. Honored 1987 for "universal values of the entire literary work, distinguished by clarity of thought and poetic power".
