A drama by Wyspianski that settles accounts with the myths of Romanticism. The action takes place mainly on the stage of a Krakow theater, and the main character is Konrad, who is himself a reference to the third part of Mickiewicz's Dziady (Forefathers' Eve). In Wyspianski's drama, it is he who fights against human attitudes in contemporary Poland and the illusions into which Romanticism has driven Poles. He fights for pure art that will present the truth and that will change people, make them act.
