From the book collection of Stanislaw Filibert Fleury (1858-1915), photographer and painter, important figure in the artistic circles of Vilnius, collector of books, maps and engravings (stamps). A handbook of acid-etching techniques, with a brief historical overview and a French-Polish glossary of technical expressions. Its author, Jozef Ruffer (1878-1940), a painter and poet associated with Lviv, studied at the Cracow Academy and in Paris from 1907. He dedicated his work to Professor Jozef Pankiewicz and Stanislaw Witkiewicz. In front of the text, an original etching by Jozef Pankiewicz "Rue de la Boucherie in Caudebec en Caux (with a cat)" dated 1907. (14.3 x 11.5; pl. 20.5 x 13; in p. d. corner reversed inscription: "Caudebec en Caux"). The book along with the etching was sold during the 1911 Henryk Grohman post-competition exhibition in Krakow, Poland, and the engraving was probably exhibited then. Jozef Pankiewicz (1866-1940), a respected painter and printmaker, working in France for many years, distinguished for the development of Polish graphic art, master of the etching technique. Discoloration of the binding. The cover with an etching by Włodzimierz Konieczny is missing. Yellowing of paper in places, otherwise good condition. Lit.: Józef Pankiewicz, life and work.
