A work on the history and harmfulness of water hemlock, a deadly poison used in antiquity and the Middle Ages. Includes a view of the Donau-Strand and Donaueschingen. Johann Jakob Wepfer (1620-1695) - Swiss pathologist and pharmacologist; he became famous for his work on the vascular anatomy of the brain and the study of cerebrovascular diseases. Wapfer made major contributions in the fields of pharmacology and toxicology - in addition to hemlock, he conducted experiments on the toxicity of hellebore and monkshood, among others; he warned against the use of arsenic, antimony and mercury in medicine.
