Full dark brown leather. Binding bound, five-panel spine. Blind embossing on covers. gilt at head and foot of spine. Leather signboard with titling. Hand-marbled lining. The edges of the pages stained. Stylized artistic binding made by hand in the bindery of the Polish Antiquarian.
A picture from the life of nuns in medieval Poland, collected by the Author from old monastery chronicles and archival documents. Numerous curiosities, anecdotes, pictures of customs and details of the daily life of the monasteries. The book contains one of the more famous graphic series by Wladyslaw Skoczylas, consisting of 8 full-page woodcuts printed on thick cardboard, and 18 figural initials in orange, printed at the beginning of successive chapters.
