Rev. Prof. Kazimierz Wais was a professor of philosophy and rector of the Jan Kazimierz University in Lviv. He is the author of dozens of works and scientific treatises, including Cosmology and Ontology, which had a special influence on the philosophical thought of Karol Wojtyla. The young Wojtyla recalls studying this work as follows: "I can say that in my life I had such two philosophical illuminations. One was Thomism and the other was Scheler. So first there was Wais. It started in such a way that Fr. Klosek gave me Wais and told me to take an exam from it. But I couldn't handle it. And at times I literally cried over this book. Only after two months, so in December and January, I began to understand something. Finally, the whole world opened up to me. I found with its help the questions that were somewhere in me, but not yet very realized. A new way of approaching reality was revealed to me."
