The novel is set in a stylized Brazil, where almost anything is possible when you are young and in love. Tristao Raposo, a nineteen-year-old black boy from the slums of Rio, and Isabel Leme, an eighteen-year-old girl from the privileged class, meet on Copacabana beach and here begins the story of their tempestuous love and unconventional marriage. Disowned by the boy's mother, pursued by paid assassins who are sent by the girl's father, they are forced to flee as far away from civilization as possible. Despite the fact that they do not keep fidelity to each other, their relationship lasts for twenty-two years - the action of the novel takes place from the mid-1960s of our century to the late 1980s.
"Brazil" is a novel about the power of passion, irrepressible emotions and innocence in this socially and politically torn country.
