Warsaw Library. A periodical devoted to the sciences, arts and industry - a monthly literary and scientific magazine published in Warsaw from 1841 to 1914, maintaining a high level throughout its existence and enjoying great interest among readers.
The co-founder of the magazine was Wincenty Majewski.
Editors included Antoni Józef Szabrański (1841-1842), Kazimierz Władysław Wóycicki (1843-1844 and 1850-1879), Józef Kazimierz Plebański (1880-1890), Józef Weyssenhoff (1891-1896) and Adam Krasiński (1901-1909). Initially a liberal magazine, the Library represented a more conservative direction during the Positivist era.
The Library played a particularly important role in the propagation of education during Wóycicki's time, when many scientific institutions were liquidated by order of the tsarist authorities.
Until 1876 it constituted the only general scientific periodical.
