Treasures of the World. Rulers of Japan

add Your note
Lot description
Estimates: 11 EUR

How Japanese rulers lived, what they believed in, what riches they possessed and which were most important to them - this book will introduce the reader to the culture and art of ancient Japan. "At the beginning of time, the god and goddess stood on a blue bridge - a rainbow - and looked down on the earth. With a spear blasted with blue jewels, they moved the ocean waters, which murmured, hardened and turned into an island. Then they descended to earth, where the goddess gave birth to the Great Land of the Eight Islands - Japan and the sun goddess, Ameterasu, to rule the new country. The sun goddess, whose birth is described in this legend, was the great-grandmother of another mythological figure, Emperor Jimmu, the legendary founder of the Japanese imperial family. All subsequent emperors were his descendants, and therefore also descendants of the sun goddess."

An album showcasing Japan's rich collection of treasures, rarely presented in their entirety. A treat for those interested in Japanese antiquities.
