Biographical note:
" Zinoviy Tolkachev (1903 Shchedrin near Bobruisk - 1977) Russian painter and printmaker of Jewish origin, "in 1915 graduated from the Jewish craft school in Kiev and took up work as an apprentice in Mann's art studio, in 1919?1924 he studied painting at the Moscow Art and Technical College and the University of Kharkov, and printmaking at the Kiev Art Institute in 1928?1929. As a volunteer he participated in World War II. He participated in the liberation of the concentration camps at Majdanek and Auschwitz. It was then that his most shocking series of drawings were created: "Majdanek," "Auschwitz," "Flowers of Auschwitz," and "Christ at Majdanek." Zinoviev Tolkachev is also the author of numerous graphics and illustrations of literary works. "
