Secrets of the Egyptian Book of the Dead
The collection of formulas written on papyrus placed with the dead in the grave in ancient Egypt used to be called the Book of the Dead. The Egyptians themselves called it the Book of the Emergence of the Day, which expressed the hope that the incantations written on the papyrus would enable them to emerge after death from the darkness of the tomb and the land of the dead into the light of day. The meaning of the texts of the Book of the Dead is fundamental to understanding ancient Egyptian religion.
Egyptologist Miroslaw Barwik, in a work unique in Polish literature, undertakes to explain these unique documents of faith of the ancient Egyptians. He discusses the various chapters of the book and places them in the broader context of knowledge of ancient Egyptian religion. The book also includes the first Polish translation of the complete papyrus of the Book of the Dead.
