Thorns and Tulips is a collection of two hundred four-poems by Baba Taher in a bilingual Persian-Polish edition. The original Persian text has been folded in an ornate nostalgia typeface. Albert Kwiatkowski, who has been translating Persian poetry for many years, has perfectly rendered both the special form and content of these short and unusual poems in his translation.
Baba Taher - a wandering dervish, a godly madman, a desolate man in love with God and tulips. Not as famous as Rumi, Hafez or Omar Khayyam, he is nevertheless equally important and moving. He is the author of quatrains sung in Iran for a thousand years, which stand out among the treasures of Persian poetry for their simplicity and lightness. A figure shrouded in mystery. Some attribute miraculous powers to him, others even consider him an angel.
