[SZYMBORSKA Wisława]. Short handwritten letter by Wislawa Szymborska signed by more than 20 people with an accompanying obituary of Adam Wlodek, who died in 1986; letter addressed to Danuta Herbert-Ulam in Paris, dated. 27 I 1998 in Cracow.
Postcard with a reproduction of a Japanese woodcut. On the back a short text thanking the memory of the anniversary of Wlodek's death. "Just today we gathered at my place and are drinking his health. You don't know all the undersigned, but they all knew Adam, so this connects you." Their signatures were affixed by: Andrzej Klominek (journalist for "Przekroj"), Jan Pawel Gawlik (theater scholar), Malgorzata and Janusz Stępinski, Jacek Baluch (literary scholar), Anna Redlich-Lutoslawska (actress), Elżbieta Zechenter-Spławińska (poet and translator), Jan Adamski (actor), Krystyna Moczulska, Joanna Salamon (poet), Ireneusz Kania (translator-polyglot), Bogumiła Ścibor-Pacholska (Włodek's cousin), Leszek A. Moczulski (poet), Stanislaw Czarniecki (geologist) and several others. Preserved original envelope hand-addressed by the author, on the back a sticker with the return address (46 Piastowska Street). The addressee of the correspondence is Danuta Herbert-Ulam, cousin of Zbigniew Herbert, wife of prominent physicist Juliusz Ulam. Obituary folded several times, very good condition.
W. Szymborska (1923-2012) - poet, essayist, critic, translator, columnist, winner of the Nobel Prize in literature in 1996, founder of the Association of Polish Writers in 1989.
