Izydor Sharanewych (1829-1901) - historian, Greek Catholic clergyman and social activist. He was born into a Ruthenian family in the village of Serafynka in Galicia. He studied theology and history in Lviv, where he later became a professor at Lviv University. He specialized in the history of Galicia and Ruthenian lands, and his most important works were on the history of Red Ruthenia and Lviv. He was one of the first researchers of the history of law and administration in Galicia. He served as director of the National Archives of Land and Municipal Records in Lviv. An active social activist, he combined scholarly activity with pastoral work.
