[Warsaw 1787]. Michal Groll. 11x18.5 cm, pp. 365, (2), contemporary leather bookbinding with embossing. Good condition (outdated library stamps, isolated minor soiling and staining).
First edition, variant without correction of printing errors. One of the most important books published in the Stanislavski period. The work was published anonymously, without specifying the place, publisher and date of publication. The preface to "The State of Chivalry" under the text stated Heilsberg, May 20, 1785, but this information was a mystification. In the title of his work, Staszic refers to Bohomoltz's work The Life of Jan Zamoyski, published in 1775. He divided his remarks into 19 chapters, in which he presents his views on, among other things, education, legislation, the executive, the judiciary, the election of kings, Moscow, the imperial states, and the military. The first edition was printed in 400 pieces and sold out very quickly.
