Title: Spies and diversions without a mask. Titovsky Rajk's conspiracy before the court in Budapest
Item description:
Notes: - László Rajk (8.03.1909 Székelyudvarhely - 15.10.1949 Budapest) Hungarian communist activist.
From Wikipedia:
"Rajk, as Minister of the Interior, was under the authority of the AVO secret political police. He is considered one of the co-creators of mass terror in Hungary. During his reign in 1947, the security service arrested the minister and several deputies from the opposition Small Farmers' Party - the winner of the 1945 elections. The AVO, as part of the so-called salami tactics, carried out a series of police provocations and arrests, leading to the overthrow of parliamentary democracy in Hungary and the seizure of full power by the Communist Party (1947).
He became foreign minister in 1948. Mátyás Rákosi recognized that Rajk posed a threat to him and in 1949 Rajk and other comrades were arrested. They were charged with counterrevolutionary conspiracy, and Rajk in particular with nationalism, ties to Tito and collaboration with the five intelligence agencies of imperialist countries. They were sentenced to death in a show trial. The charges were unsupported by any evidence other than the defendants' tortured confessions. During the trial, Rajk pointed to Wladyslaw Gomulka as an accomplice in the international conspiracy.
Rajk was hanged along with three comrades. He was rehabilitated in September 1954. On October 6, 1956, on what was then Hungary's national holiday, the ashes of Rajk and his comrades were exhumed and buried with honors at Kerepesi Cemetery, and 200,000 people gathered for the funeral."
