Description of South America , the work of Spanish vice admiral, traveler, diplomat and scientist Jorge Juan y Santacilia (1713-1763) and Antonio de Ulloa (1716-1795), Spanish astronomer and politician, was first published in Madrid in 1748 and was the most comprehensive 18th century description of this region of the world, presenting the results of scientific expeditions in which both authors participated, among others. Abrasions of the covers with significant losses of the paper veneers of the covers and a small loss of the upper part of the spine of vol. 1, traces of dampness in vol. 1 of several initial pages and on the side margin of the final pages with small losses, also of the back cover, block of vol. 2 very well preserved, ex. complete with high quality engravings.
