First edition of the classic monograph by Ignacy Schiper (1884-1943), a Polish writer, historian and economist of Jewish origin. The work is divided into two parts: the first is devoted to the history of Jewish commerce in Poland (from the earliest times, i.e. from the time the Jewish community appeared in our lands, until the interwar years), while the second - placed as an appendix - depicts the organization of Jewish merchants in Warsaw during the 19th century and then presents the 30-year activity of the Centrala Związku Kupców.
