Bertrand Russell is considered the founder of analytic philosophy along with his predecessor Gottlob Frege, collaborator G.E. Moore and disciple Ludwig Wittgenstein. He is considered one of the best logicians of the 20th century. His work has had a significant impact in mathematics, logic, multiplicity theory, linguistics, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, computer science, and philosophy, particularly philosophy of language, epistemology and metaphysics.
In 1950, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature "in recognition of his varied and significant writings in which he defended humanitarian ideals and freedom of thought," although he himself maintained that he received the prize for his book Marriage and Morals, in which he advocated "free love" and sexual freedom.
The first Polish edition, which became part of the Library of Pedagogical Works, was translated from Dr. Janina Hosiasson (later Hosiasson-Lindenbaum) (1899-1942) a talented doctor of philosophy and logic. She was one of the most prominent representatives of the Warsaw school of philosophy and logic. She worked on the theory of induction and related issues in probability theory.
