Three young people - Wolverine, Panther and Crane - spend the summer in the forest wilderness. They take up residence in a wooden cabin by a lake. They farm, cultivate a garden, go hiking and help animals. They live according to the rhythm of nature and its laws.
Rodziewiczówna weaves the story unhurriedly, sometimes in a rather strained style, but it soon becomes apparent that her message is thoroughly modern. One can see in it an in-depth knowledge of the forest, animals, rural and wilderness traditions.
According to Professor Jaroslaw Marek Rymkiewicz, Rodziewiczówna's work is "a great - the greatest after Pan Tadeusz - hymn to the glory of Polishness."
