Rabindranath Tagore - Indian poet, novelist, philosopher, composer, painter, educator, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature (1913), the first for an Indian as well as for an Asian. (...) He declared himself an extreme pacifist and opponent of violence in all its forms, and had no interest in politics as such. He received a British knighthood in 1915, but rejected it four years later.
