PUZO Mario - The Godfather. Translated by Bronislaw Zielinski. Warsaw 1976, Czytelnik. 8, s. 584, [4]. Booklet, wrappers.
Slight corner crease of front cover, otherwise very good condition. First Polish edition of the cult novel by M. Puzo telling the story of a Sicilian mafia family operating in New York. The English original ("The Godfather") was published in 1969. The novel was made famous by its 1972 film adaptation directed by F. Coppola, with acclaimed roles by M. Brando (Don Vito Corleone) and Al Pacino (Michael Corleone). "Critics emphasize Mario Puzo's almost documentary reliability in gathering details of Mafia life, the vividness and naturalness of the language, and the psychological credibility of the characters in his novels" ("Dictionary of Popular Literature," Wr. 1997, p. 348). The book's wrapper was designed by Zbigniew Czarniecki.
