(Estr. T. 25.) The work describes in detail the wars of the Swedes against Poland and Denmark from 1654 to 1660. The text illustrated according to drawings made by Erik Dahlberg, engineer and general quartermaster, accompanying the Swedish army. Engravings made by French, Swedish, Dutch engravers, among others: Blesendorff, Boulanger, Cochin, Cordier, W. Swidde, F. de Lapointe and others. Many engravings were dedicated to Poland; Panorama of Warsaw, scenes of battles near Warsaw, Cracow, Torun, Malbork, plans of cities and fortresses: Gdansk, Sandomierz, Lowicz, Brzeg, Piotrkow and many others. Particularly noteworthy is the beautiful 4.5 m long panorama of Stockholm, reflected from 13 copper plates, with magnificent staffage. All illustrations are of high documentary and artistic value. The rich staffage of the engravings is valuable material for the study of construction, art of war, costuming of the Baroque era. Traces of sparse browning. Period binding: brown leather, spine with gilt ornaments. Binding expertly repaired, fresh linings. A nice piece, first edition, strong and clearly copperplate engravings. A beautiful, complete and rare work.
