The work is devoted to Warsaw bookbinders of the partition period (1795-1918). It consists of two parts. The first is an introduction, which presents key issues, processes and phenomena concerning the craft and the people associated with it. The second is a comprehensive biographical dictionary. This fills an acute gap in research on the history of the bookbinding movement in Warsaw, joining the current of bookbinding biography, hitherto poorly present in Poland, but practiced successfully and on a not inconsiderable scale in foreign binding studies for many decades.
