PISKORSKI Sebastjan - The Lives of Barlaam and Jehoshaphat. Edited and prefaced by Jan Janow. Lvov 1935. scientific society. 8, pp. [4], CCVIII, 322. broch. Zabytki Pismo¶ci Polskiego, vol. 6.
Small losses of the spine, folds of the edges of the cover, otherwise good condition. Text of a work originally published in 1688 in Cracow, being, as J. Krzyżanowski wrote, "the singularest of 'clerical romances,' for it is a biography of Buddha, Christianized to such an extent that it has become an important position in the history of European hagiography." First up is an extensive study in which its author "discusses for the first time the Polish variants included in the history of the novel, and he knows more than a dozen of them, starting with Skarga [...]. A work impressive both in its scope and precision in posing and resolving the issues" (J. Krzyzanowski in Pamiętnik Literacki, 1938). Infrequent.
